Picking up the perfect wetsuit is immensely important for avid watersports enthusiasts. Whether you’re a surfer, a kitesurfer, a paddle boarder or you take part in any of a number of other watersports - getting the right wetsuit is perhaps the most crucial early investment.

To work properly, a wetsuit should fit very tightly against the body. In addition, the thicker it is, the warmer it will keep you. The trapped water is rapidly warmed up by your body heat, and becomes an insulating layer. Neoprene is the material used in making wetsuits and it’s what acts as the insulator. Neoprene contains thousands of tiny air bubbles that act as insulators, trapping heat inside the wetsuit rather than releasing it into the water.
So, you have done a set of kitesurfing lessons, you are getting up and riding under control over 50m and getting runs in in both directions for between 50 – 100 metres. You ask yourself (and hopefully ask your instructor too) “Can I go solo and carry on practicing on my own? What kite and board should I buy?”
Many first timers ask us at The Watersports Centre - “What do you wear under a wetsuit?”. From board shorts, to a bikini, to nothing at all, what to wear under a wetsuit is a matter of personal preference. Most people prefer to wear a swimsuit or board shorts, and others may need to wear sport specific gear underneath their wetsuit depending on the activity they’re participating in.
The Watersports Centre test rider, 4 times British Pro Freestyle champion, George Dufty rode the 4m and 6m Shinn Resurector wings across a number of wind conditions. Firstly in 15-18 knots and then in 25+ knots and later in 30-35 knots (on the 4m of course!)
