Performance & Feel

The construction is what separates this from the V2 Active Carbon. Where the Active Carbon uses a wood sandwich deck over a carbon bottom, the Carbon Plus goes full carbon both sides: glass layer fusing the high-density foam core, finished with a complete biaxial carbon layer on top and bottom. The biaxial orientation is optimised for responsiveness, strength and low weight together, and AK have stripped out handles and footstrap inserts to take the weight down further. The result is a stiffer, lighter board that responds more directly to rider input and pumps with less effort.

The shape does what the Nomad shape has always done which is getting you on foil, just now more refined than ever. The parallel outline keeps volume evenly distributed for stability on the surface and easy take-off. The forward foil box position keeps your stance consistent from paddling through to flight, balanced front to back so pumping is natural and manoeuvring on foil is immediate. The concave deck puts volume toward the nose to stop it bogging under front foot pressure, and lowers your centre of gravity for a stable platform. The pin tail and narrow nose work together for clean water release and efficient glide. The shape is built around covering distance, not turning tight.

At 115L this is the lightwind and downwind sweet spot. Enough volume to float patiently in marginal conditions and build surface speed into take-off. It won't replace a shorter performance board when the wind is properly on, but for getting up in light wind or covering ground downwind, it's the most capable version of the Nomad.
