North Navigator Pro Gen 2 Short Throw Kite Control Bar

The North Navigator Pro Gen 2 Short Throw takes North's flagship control bar and brings the trim handle 10cm closer, so full depower is within easy reach for smaller-framed riders. It carries over everything that makes the standard Pro bar the top of North's range: front-line auto-unwind, a 20% stronger yet 20% lighter build, and a 4-line setup that flies just as well with another brand's kite. Because the shortened throw means less overall depower range, it's best paired with 12m and smaller kites, so you've still got enough depower when the wind picks up.

  • 4-line kitesurfing control bar, best paired with 12m and under kites
  • 20% stronger and lighter Pro construction
  • Connect V2 Quick Release with front-line auto-unwind
  • SK99 Dyneema Pro lines
  • Short throw trim handle, 10cm closer for easier reach
  • Beginner to advanced riders

Our Test Team Thoughts

"The Navigator Pro Gen 2 is the premium bar from North's kite range, with all the latest safety features you'd expect but here in its Short Throw configuration. This brings the bar and the trim cleat around 10cm/4 inches closer to the rider. It'll fly any other brand's four-line kite too. The Pro version is 20% lighter but at the same time 20% stronger than the standard Navigator Gen 2 bar. The bar uses SK99 Pro lines, which are thinner but stronger than the standard lines. It also features ceramic bearings in its swivel system, built into the quick release which North market as their Auto Unwind System, we like the feel of the bar and the texture of the EVA."

Performance & Feel

The shortened throw is the whole point of this bar, and it makes a genuine difference if you've got less reach. Bringing the trim handle 10cm closer means you can get to full depower without stretching for it, and everything our testers liked about the standard Pro bar's feel, the EVA texture, the hand feel, carries over unchanged.

Everything else is shared with the standard Navigator Pro Gen 2. The ceramic-bearing swivel built into the Connect V2 Quick Release handles front-line unwind automatically after a loop, so there's no manual spin needed between kiteloops. The Connect V2 Quick Release itself is a single-action reload system with a Security Finger, minimising the risk of accidental release or unhooking, and it's ISO-21853 certified. The Modular Toolless InterLoop system means it's compatible with all Connect V2 Loops without needing tools, and the SK99 Dyneema Pro lines are thinner and stronger than standard lines for a direct, precise feel. Bold red-on-left colour coding makes orientation quick at a glance too.

Worth knowing before you buy: the shorter throw means less overall depower range, so North recommend keeping it to 12m and smaller kites to make sure you've still got enough depower in strong wind. If you're regularly on bigger kites, the standard-throw Navigator Pro Gen 2 is the better fit. If you've got a smaller reach, or you're mainly on 12m and under and want the top-of-range bar to match, this is built for you.
