North Sonar Stabiliser

The North Sonar Stabiliser is the rear wing to match all of the range of North Sonar Foil Systems. Available across four families so you can match your stabiliser precisely to your front wing and riding style.

  • Rear stabiliser for North's Sonar Foil System
  • Four families: Freeride, Speed, Surf and Glide, covering every foil discipline
  • Pre-preg carbon construction, thin high-aspect profile
  • Top-mounted position for clean hydrodynamics and early breach recovery
  • Ten sizes from S142 to S320
  • For beginners right through to advanced riders

Performance & Feel

All North Sonar stabiliser mount on top of the fuselage rather than below it, keeping the hydrodynamic flow clean and undisturbed by the front wing being above it. This gives you an early breach warning since the stabiliser pierces the surface first. Sizing works as a balance of forces: your front wing creates lift, while the stabiliser pushes down so a larger stabiliser adds front foot pressure and a smaller one reduces it and at the same time, a smaller stabiliser is "looser" than a larger stabiliser. The pairing between the stabiliser and front wing can make a lot of difference.

The Freeride family, S210, S270 and S320, is an allround choice. The S270 is the go-to for balanced kite, wing and surf performance, the S210 suits a smaller front wing for a more agile, high-speed feel, and the S320 suits a larger front wing for earlier planing and greater stability.

Step up to the Speed family, S178, S208 and S238, and the character sharpens. These run a higher aspect ratio and a flatter rondure than their Freeride counterparts, trading some drag for more manoeuvrability, and they're built for experienced riders running HA and smaller MA front wings.

The Surf family, S185 and S215, is matched specifically to North's SF Series front wings. A minimal sweep outline and upturned tips improve low-speed performance and directional stability, and advanced riders can remove the S215's wingtips along the marked guideline for a fully flat, looser feel.

The Glide family, S142 and S192, is built in HM carbon to hold stiffness despite a super thin high-aspect shape. designed for covering long distances downwind, pumping or prone foiling with minimal effort. The S142 is the fastest of the whole range and rewards riders who can put the energy into pumping it, rather than being the easiest option to hold glide on.

Key Features

  • Universal top-mounted design: sits above the fuselage for cleanhydrodynamic flow
  • Freeride family (S210, S270, S320): An all-round choice
  • Speed family (S178, S208, S238): flatter, looser and faster than Freeride
  • Surf family (S185, S215): matched to North's SF Series
  • Glide family (S142, S192): built in HM carbon for stiffness in a thin, high-aspect shape
  • Matched sizing: pair your stabiliser size to your front wing, since a larger stabiliser adds front foot pressure and a smaller one reduces it
