Performance & Feel

The single strut, open arc design is what sets the Catalyst apart from a more delta-shaped kite, and the V5 carries that same lightweight, easy-going character forward from the V4. Being a single-strut kite is what gives it such a friendly feel in the air along with a wider usable wind range than you'd expect from a beginner kite. The bridles are direct with no pulley system, so what you feel through the bar is genuine, direct Ozone handling.

Power delivery is smooth and progressive, with plenty of depower on tap for gusty days, and the kite tracks upwind well, so more of your session goes into riding rather than walking back upwind. Ten bridle line attachment points now run along the leading edge across every size, where previously only the 14m and 16m had them, giving a steadier, more consistent feel across the whole range. A rounder, more arced airframe adds a touch more speed to the handling too, so progression feels a little livelier without losing any of that beginner-friendly forgiveness. Relaunching off the water is easy and the Front Line Flag Out release gives you a straightforward, dependable way to dump power and release if you need to.

The Catalyst V5 has more to give than its beginner reputation suggests. Smooth lift and clear feedback make first jumps genuinely doable, and its light weight and low-end power have also made it a favourite among foiling and lightwind riders, as well as more experienced riders. Ozone have also added Dacron reinforcement to the areas that take the most ground contact during those early sessions.
