Ozone Vortex V1 Ultra-X Kite

The Ozone Vortex V1 Ultra-X is Ozone's dedicated King of the Air, Big Air Kite, built from the ground up for riders who live for kite loops and big air. A highly tuned, three strut design supercharged with a full Aluula airframe, it's lighter and faster steering than the Ozone Edge, with a whippy, responsive character that's built specifically around loop after loop of confident, catchable power.

  • Dedicated big air and kite loop specialist
  • 3-strut, Aluula airframe construction
  • Double transversal canopy shaping for a taut, responsive canopy
  • 16-point leading edge bridle connections for stability and control
  • Lighter on the bar, faster steering than the Edge
  • Intermediate+ riders and above, especially loop specialists

Our Test Team Thoughts

"We were amazed at the speed the kite flew and how quickly it responded through the bar. We flew a 9m and an 11m, and it's fair to say the 9m flew as fast as we'd expect of a 7m, and the 11m as quick as we'd expect of a 9m. Our resident kite loop and freestyle expert had a huge amount of fun, and you could see the smile on his face from the other end of the beach."

Performance & Feel

The Vortex started life as a five strut concept before Ozone's development team, chasing 40-knot storm sessions and endless prototype revisions, landed on a three strut platform as the sharper, more intuitive design. The Aluula construction meant they could build it with a genuinely narrow leading edge, narrower even than the Ozone Edge without sacrificing the rigidity needed to handle high winds. The result is a frame that's more responsive and more precise than standard Dacron with reduced drag adding real speed and handling on top.

Where the Vortex sets itself apart is in how it turns. Compared to the Edge, it's noticeably lighter on the bar, with faster, whippier steering that makes committing to a loop feel instinctive rather than deliberate. Double transversal canopy shaping keeps the sail taut and controlled through that turn, so power delivery stays smooth and predictable even as you're asking a lot of the kite. The 16-point leading edge bridle connection spreads load evenly across the frame, which is what gives the Vortex its stability and agility at the same time, rather than one coming at the cost of the other.

This is a kite built around one job: giving you more lift on the way up, catching you after the loop and giving you more lift on the way back down. Whether you're already deep into kite loops or working towards your first ones, the Vortex is tuned to deliver that catch and lift with real confidence, and dedicated riders chasing the next level of big air will find a kite that rewards commitment rather than punishing it
