Shinn Pulse FoilDrive Board

The Shinn Pulse FoilDrive Board is Mark Shinn's answer to a problem every foil drive rider has felt: how close can you get the motor to the foil before it starts working against you. His answer was to cut a trench into the board itself, recessing the drive unit into a 20mm carbon track that sits as close to the mast head as physically possible. Shorter, wider, thinner and stiffer than a standard board.

The trench is where it starts. FoilDrive units are thick, and thickness sitting directly under your back foot means leverage working against you, with any twist in the motor's thrust translating straight into front foot pressure. Recessing the unit into the board instead of bolting it underneath closes that gap, bringing the weight distribution of powered and free flight close enough that no stance change is needed between the two. Beveled rails keep the edges clean through low-altitude carves and touchdowns, and the internal bracing is engineered to keep the FoilDrive's signal reaching the unit even fully submerged.
